Zeljko Obradovic – Career and Accomplishments
Zeljko Obradovic (65), the coach of Fenerbahce Dogus Basketball Team is a basketball legend who is mentioned most often. The Serbian coach has won many trophies in his career. Since he has won 9 Euroleague championships with 5 different clubs, he is considered one of the best coaches of Europe. In addition to his club achievements he has national team achievements. He won the 1997 European Basketball Championship and the 1998 FIBA World Championship.
Zeljko Obradovic’s Career
Zeljko Obradovic played basketball professionally between 1980 and 1991. While playing in the Partizan team, he won the Yugoslavia League in 1987 and the Korac Cup championship in 1989. He won silver with Yugoslav national team in the 1988 Summer Olympic Games. Also won the gold medal in the 1990 World Basketball Championship.
Zeljko Obradovic, who retired from basketball in 1991, won the championship with his Partizan team during his first season of coaching career. He also brought the first and only championship of club history to Partizan in Euroleague between 1994 and 1997. Obradovic coached Real Madrid between 1994 and 1997, and he made Real Madrid the Euroleague champion in 1995. Obradovic, coach of Benetton Treviso in 2007, also assigned in the Yugoslav national team.
He won the 1997 European and 1998 World Championships with the national team. The legendary coach who made an agreement with Panathinaikos in 1999, served on this team for exactly 13 years. Panathinaikos had only one Euroleague championship before Obradovic and this team became champion in Euroleague in 2000, 2002, 2007, 2009 and 2011.
Obradovic, who made an agreement with Fenerbahce Ulker basketball team in 2013, continued his success. Obradovic made a great contribution to Turkish basketball in 2013. He won the Presidential Cup in 2013, Turkey Basketball League championship in 2014. Fenerbahce which played Final Four in Euroleague in 2015, played the Final Four again in 2016 and was in the second place. The team once again played Final Four in 2017, won the Euroleague championship for the first time in its history by defeating Olympiacos.
